Civic data platform for Slovak democracy
Civic data platform for Slovak democracy
Open Politics is a civic technology project built and contributed by accute as a public service — a working prototype of a mobile application covering national and municipal politics across Slovakia. Voting records, asset declarations, budget data, council decisions — structured, searchable, and free. We built the proof of concept. Now we are looking for partners to take it to production.

Public data exists. The infrastructure to make it useful didn't. We started building it.

"Democratic accountability doesn't fail because citizens don't care. It fails because the information they need is technically available but practically inaccessible."

A civic problem with a technical solution — prototyped and ready for partners.
The data that would allow citizens to hold local politicians accountable already exists. Voting records are published. Asset declarations are filed. Budget reports are available. The problem is not transparency in principle — it is that the information is scattered across hundreds of municipal portals, formatted inconsistently, and practically impossible to navigate without investing significant time and expertise most citizens don't have.

Open Politics solves the infrastructure layer. We have designed the data consolidation architecture, built the working prototype of the mobile application, and validated the core user flows. What the project now requires is partnership — organisations, institutions, or sponsors who share the conviction that this information gap is worth closing, and who can support the data consolidation and production build that turns a working prototype into a publicly available platform.

[ DATA & TRANSPARENCY LAYER ]
The information that changes how people vote — mapped, structured, and ready to populate.
The platform architecture covers the complete political profile of every relevant actor: party affiliation, active periods, voting history on individual motions, asset declarations over time, attendance records, and budget data for every covered municipality. The data sources are identified — all official public records, traceable to their origin.

The municipal layer is the one that matters most for daily life and has historically been most opaque. Who voted for the new development project? Which councillor has been absent for six of the last twelve sessions? Open Politics makes these questions answerable in seconds. The prototype already demonstrates how. It needs data to demonstrate it at scale.

Most civic tech serves the election cycle. This one is designed for the five years no one is watching.
We build software for clients who need institutional-grade infrastructure. We build Open Politics because we live here too.“

Built to outlast the next election cycle — and designed to be self-sustaining.
Most civic tech projects spike around elections and go dark the morning after. Open Politics is architected for the opposite: a platform most valuable in the quiet periods between elections, when the decisions that will define the next campaign are actually being made.

This is our contribution to the society we are part of. We are not the right people to own this platform forever — we are the right people to build it and hand it to the public it serves. We have the technical capability, the working prototype, and the architectural foundation. We are looking for organisations and individuals who want to help close the gap between public data and public understanding.
