Energy companies in Slovakia exchange operational data such as consumption figures, energy orders, grid status with distribution system operators (VSD, SSD, ZSD) via S/MIME encrypted and certificate-signed emails containing standardised XML attachments. The client's internal system handles this communication automatically, but an issue in their encryption implementation meant outgoing emails couldn't be decrypted by recipients, and incoming messages from distributors couldn't be read.
